2014 Decroux Sta. Rita Hills

Medium-dark color, this is a focused and vibrant Pinot with savory, loamy minerality, showing delicate wild berries, cherry, clove and a touch of vanilla. Despite the high percentage of new French oak (66%), it is surprising well integrated for its youth. Bright acidity that will mellow with bottle age. Excellent weigh on the palate and long lingering finish with nice tannins. This bottling is from two distinctly different sites in Santa Rita Hills, La Encantada, a cooler site, and John Sebastiano a slightly warmer site, and is comprised from three clones, Pommard, 667 and 115.

2015 Decroux Radian

Although adjacent to the La Encantada vineyard in the Sta Rita Hills AVA, the two sites could not be more different. Radian is a vineyard located within a large section of an estate called Salispuedes (in Spanish means "Get-out-if-you-can"). This is an extremely steep hillside property, the soil has a large amount of limestone and the block is organically farmed. We source Dijon clone 777 from this location. This a fruit driven charmer, unfolding ripe red raspberry and salted Bing cherry. On the nose, a hint of mint, smoke, pipe tobacco, excellent acidity and a creamy mouth feel equals love at first sip. 2015 Decroux Sta. Rita Hills

The Sta. Rita Hills is a special AVA, ideally suited for Pinot Noir because of a combination of poor marine-based sandy loam soils, elevated calcium in the soil and the Pacific's cooling influence through fog and wind.  This botting is a blend of distinct vineyard sites and clones from three locations in Sta. Rita Hills, each site displaying its own character.  When combined these sites create a terrific example of the diversity in the AVA.  Aged in 50% new French oak for 15 months, this medium-ruby colored Pinot Noir expresses black cherry, concentrated plum, spicy cedar, chewy firm tannins, zesty acidity, adding up to a long persistent finish.  While approachable in its youth, it deserves another few years of cellaring.
